Querencia

I am busy with work and life at the moment so I probably won't be posting much for a while but when the day is done and I am settling down for the evening I would much rather  read  than watch tv. I make time for reading and rarely watch tv.

I just read  Stephen Bodio's "Querencia" and it is a beautiful book for anyone who loves the real world ,real people and loves living a real life.

Stephen is a true naturalist/hunter and fine author,  describes moving from New England to New Mexico and finding his "Querencia" He was extremely fortunate in that "he found someone to talk to "
A fine  book of the natural world, love and loss.

It can be found on Amazon of course, read the reviews there.

Back to work

After two months of solitary hunting, just me and the dogs, it seems strange to be back to work. Anyway I have been a week now back in the fakenphony world. I can look up though and still see the sun and stars and feel the weather. Thank God for weekends. I have two weeks put away for Christmas. It will be good to get in just to light a fire and boil the kettle. Snowshoe hares and maybe help a friend look for moose.

hunting

Steaks, roasts, ground meat, sausages, hares stewing in cast iron pots, and birds roasting in the oven.
This year we can get by with very little if any store bought meat. All of it gotten while looking at beautiful country and seeing and feeling the weather (both good and bad) and the pleasure and the pain that is hunting. I feel lucky today to live where I do.

Just after daylight

Picture is not very good. Its a cheap cell phone picture. Forgot my camera. I have the quarters next to the lake after a full days work. Solitary moose hunting is for younger folk. Oh how I ache.Going to get him in the morning by boat. Hope the coyotes stay away

In the middle of it

Well into fall now and the weather has been good. Been getting a few birds and been getting back in beyond of everybody. Life can be pretty good some times

I should be getting the moose out of the way but I love getting the dogs out. The pup is coming along very nicely. The dogs just love it

Why its called "The Rock"

These pics were taken within an hour or two walk from my house. I like isolated stretches of coast.

100 cm snow tonight ,tomorrow

We haven't had our normal snow this year as you can see from my picture boiling the kettle last weekend. They are calling for up to 100 cm of snow tonight and tomorrow with winds to 120 km/h. Thats about 3 ft of snow and winds of 70 mph. Won't be going anywhere for a few days. Got lots of food in the house and a couple bottles of scotch. Let it snow
