Why its called "The Rock"

These pics were taken within an hour or two walk from my house. I like isolated stretches of coast.

  3. Thanks Stephen and Michael. Been busy with work but with long evenings now I have been getting out shooting or walking most every day now. Trouting this week after work to be followed by salmon fishing in a few weeks. I don't want more money but I could sure use more time

  4. I have a picture from the rocky coast of Northern Ireland that is almost identical to that third picture.

It's beautiful. Would I find myself suddenly rich enough to quit my job (and somehow have decent health care) I'd retire there in a heartbeat.

  5. Work drags on us all Brigid although your career I am sure ,is more interesting and challenging than most.

A 19 year old man slipped and fell to his death near here a few weeks ago. He was hiking with several friends. I remember coming home from work and seeing the emergency services, the RCMP, and a hearse as they brought his body to the trailhead just outside my door

  6. New England never makes me nostalgic for cold water, mist and rock, but Newfoundland can.

I may have had ancetsors there-- the McCabes were generally a bit south in PEI and Nova Scotia, but a lot of foggier (sorry) Celtic ancestors may have come your "Rock".

  7. Steve, I have never lived in the desert or semi desert but have visited a few desert areas. I feel like I am at home in semi arid or high plains country.Maybe its from my time spent on open country. I live for open vistas. I love being surrounded by sky. Much to much fog here in Newfoundland. It does make you soul sing on sunny days though after you have been in the fog for a while.
